Hyderabad Recycles 24 Tonnes of Flowers After Ganesh Immersion

Hyderabad Promotes Sustainability Through Flower Recycling After Ganesh Festival

In a successful initiative following the recent Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the city of Hyderabad has managed to recycle approximately 24 tonnes of floral waste generated during the event. This effort aimed to mitigate the environmental impact associated with the immersion of Ganesh idols and the subsequent disposal of flower offerings.

The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) implemented a systematic collection and recycling process, engaging local communities and NGOs in the endeavor. The collected flowers are being transformed into organic compost and other eco-friendly products, showcasing the citys commitment to sustainability and waste management.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated widely across India, with large-scale celebrations leading to significant amounts of waste. The recirculation of floral waste is one of several initiatives by the Hyderabad government aimed at promoting eco-conscious practices and reducing pollution during festival seasons.

This year’s effort reflects a growing trend among Indian cities to adopt environmentally friendly practices during cultural celebrations, as more local governments seek innovative ways to address waste management challenges. The successful recycling of flower waste not only benefits the environment but also raises awareness among residents about the importance of sustainable practices in their daily lives.
