Hyderabads Power Demand Surges Ahead of Diwali as El Niño Causes Continued Use of Air Conditioners

Ahead of the Diwali celebrations, Hyderabad is witnessing a significant increase in power demand, with a reported rise of 11.9%. The surge in electricity consumption is largely attributed to the persistent heat conditions driven by El Niño, which has resulted in many residents relying on air conditioning units to stay comfortable.

As preparations for the festival ramp up, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has noted that electricity demands typically rise during this period due to a combination of festive lighting and cooling needs. With temperatures remaining unseasonably high, many citizens are keeping their air-conditioners on for extended periods, thereby contributing to the spike in power usage.

To manage the increased demand, the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TSGENCO) has been working to ensure a stable supply of electricity. They have reported that measures are in place to handle the anticipated load, especially during peak hours. Officials are monitoring the situation closely, aiming to prevent any disruptions that could affect the festive celebrations.

As the Diwali festivities approach, residents are encouraged to use electricity wisely and consider energy-efficient alternatives where possible, especially during the peak hours of power usage. This not only will help in managing the load more effectively but also contribute to conservation efforts during a critical time of the year.

The citys power infrastructure is also being evaluated to meet ongoing demands while ensuring a sustainable approach to energy consumption. Authorities remain committed to providing reliable power as the region gears up for the upcoming holiday celebrations.
