Id Prayers Not Permitted at Srinagars Jama Masjid for Eighth Consecutive Year

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head of the Awami Action Committee and a prominent religious leader in Kashmir, lamented the absence of traditional Eid prayers at the historic Eidgah, stating it is unfortunate that children in the region are growing up without experiencing this spiritually significant event.

Eid prayers at the Eidgah, a customary gathering for the Muslim community during the festival of Eid, have been disrupted in recent years due to various factors, including security concerns and restrictions imposed by local authorities. This spiritual gathering not only serves as a religious observance but also fosters community bonds and cultural heritage among the people of Kashmir.

The Eidgah is known for its impressive architecture and has been a central site for Eid prayers in Srinagar for centuries. Community leaders and religious figures have expressed concerns over the impact of missed communal prayers on the younger generation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining religious and cultural practices. Local authorities have yet to announce plans for reinstating these prayers, sparking ongoing discussions about religious freedoms and community rights in the region.
