IIT-Roorkee Clarifies Admission Process for Candidates Not Meeting Eligibility Criteria

Current eligibility criteria for candidates seeking admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) through the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) (JEE Advanced) require that applicants achieve a minimum of 75% marks in their Class 12 board examinations or equivalent qualifications.

This percentage threshold is designed to ensure that candidates possess a solid academic foundation before undertaking the rigorous programs offered by the IITs, which are known for their high standards in engineering and technology education. However, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories have a relaxed criterion, requiring a minimum of 65% in their Class 12 examinations.

The JEE Advanced is the second stage of the entrance examination process for IITs, following the JEE Main, which serves as a screening test. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, candidates must rank among the top candidates in JEE Main. It is important for students to prepare adequately for both stages of the examination to improve their chances of securing a spot in one of Indias premier engineering institutions.
