IMD Issues Red Alert for Coastal Karnataka on July 2 and 3
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported that coastal Karnataka received 53 millimeters of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on July 1. This figure exceeds the normal average rainfall of 41 millimeters for the same timeframe.
The increased rainfall is part of the Southwest Monsoon season, which typically affects the region from June to September. Coastal Karnataka, which includes districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, is known for its agriculture and fishing industries, both of which can be significantly influenced by weather patterns.
Officials are monitoring weather conditions closely, as excessive rainfall can lead to flooding and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to stay informed about the weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions during heavy rainfall events.
