Increase in Passport Application Fees Effective July 1
The cost of applying for a new or reissued 36-page passport has been set at ₹2,500, with the fee for a tatkal application rising to ₹5,000. Additionally, the prices for regular 60-page passports have increased to ₹3,500, while the tatkal application fee for this passport type will now be ₹6,000.
These changes in passport application fees are part of a broader update by the Ministry of External Affairs aimed at streamlining passport services in India. The increase in costs may reflect adjustments for inflation and the rising operational expenses associated with processing applications.
The tahkal option, which offers expedited processing for those needing a passport quickly, remains significantly higher than the standard application rates, highlighting the premium for urgent services. Applicants are advised to check the official government website or visit the nearest passport office for detailed information on the application process and necessary documentation.
