India and Russia Expand Dialogue on 105-Plane Deal Ahead of BRICS Summit

India and Russia are engaging in discussions regarding an ambitious deal involving 105 aircraft, primarily focusing on bolstering cooperation in the aviation sector ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit.

The dialogue includes plans for Indian operators to sign preliminary agreements for over 80 units of the Il-114-300 turboprop aircraft. This aircraft is designed for regional use and aims to strengthen connectivity within Indias vast market, addressing the increasing demand for regional air transport.

Russias United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is looking to increase its footprint in Indias regional aviation sector by supplying 85 planes to local firms. This initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance collaboration and technological exchange in civil aviation between the two nations.

As part of these discussions, both governments are also exploring avenues for joint production of civil passenger aircraft, which could potentially lead to significant advancements in Indias domestic aerospace capabilities.

These moves are indicative of Russias intent to enhance its presence in Indias aviation industry, particularly as both countries prepare for the upcoming BRICS summit, which aims to foster multi-faceted cooperation among member states including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
