India Commissions Third Nuclear Submarine, INS Aridhaman.

India has officially commissioned its third nuclear submarine, known as the INS Aridhaman. This milestone reflects the countrys ongoing efforts to enhance its naval capabilities and strengthen its strategic deterrence.

The INS Aridhaman, part of the Indian Navys Project 75 program, was developed by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai. The submarine is reported to be an advanced version of its predecessors, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and features that improve stealth, surveillance, and combat capabilities.

The induction of INS Aridhaman into the Indian Navy comes at a time when India is looking to bolster its maritime security amid evolving regional dynamics, particularly in the Indian Ocean region. The addition of this submarine enhances Indias second-strike capability, which is crucial for maintaining a credible deterrent posture against potential adversaries.

Under Project 75, India aims to build a total of six submarines, all designed with an emphasis on indigenous development. The first two submarines in this series, INS Kalvari and INS Khanderi, were commissioned in 2017 and 2019, respectively. The ongoing focus on enhancing indigenous defense production aligns with the governments “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, which promotes self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
