India honors maritime personnel for their role in ensuring energy security.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal praised the bravery and professionalism of Indian seafarers operating the LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi. These vessels successfully traversed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor known for its strategic importance and subject to increased geopolitical tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key chokepoint for global oil shipments, with approximately 20% of the worlds crude oil passing through it. Recent escalations in regional conflicts have heightened concerns over the safety of vessels navigating these waters. The Union Ministers commendation highlights the resilience of Indian maritime professionals, who continue to operate under challenging conditions while ensuring the security of vital trade routes.

Indias government has been actively monitoring the situation in the region and has implemented measures to support its seafarers amid these tensions. The safe passage of the Shivalik and Nanda Devi not only underscores the maritime capabilities of Indian shipping but also reflects the country’s commitment to maintaining safe navigation in international waters.
