India ranks 125th in the 2026 Global Passport Index, a decline of one position from the previous year.

Indias Passport Ranking Decreases in Global Passport Index for 2026

India has dropped one position to rank 125th in the Global Passport Index for 2026, remaining outside the top 100, according to recent reports. This index evaluates passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. Indias current ranking represents a slight decline from the previous years position.

In contrast, nine of the top ten passports belong to European nations, with France, Germany, and Spain taking the lead. These countries allow their passport holders entry to over 190 destinations worldwide. In comparison, Indian passport holders can access 60 countries without requiring a visa in advance.

The Global Passport Index reflects broader trends in international mobility and visa accessibility, which are influenced by geopolitical factors, bilateral agreements, and the economic status of countries. The decline in Indias passport ranking may reflect ongoing challenges in securing visa-free travel agreements and the impact of diplomatic relations.

For Indian travelers seeking international experiences, there are notable options under the current ranking, including 56 destinations across Southeast Asia and other regions accessible without a prior visa. Among these countries are popular tourist spots like Thailand, Maldives, and Nepal.

As global travel continues to evolve, passport rankings serve as an important measure for countries regarding their global standing and diplomatic relationships. The next few years may see shifts in rankings as countries work to adjust their visa policies and enhance international relations.
