India to Exempt High-Tech Industries from BIS Certification Requirements
Indias Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, announced that high-tech industries will be exempt from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification requirements, aiming to accelerate the growth of these sectors. This move is expected to alleviate regulatory burdens for emerging firms in technology-critical areas such as semiconductors and electronics.
In addition to this exemption, Goyal stated that the Indian government plans to modify existing rules within the next two months to address concerns raised by the semiconductor and automotive sectors. These changes will likely focus on streamlining compliance processes and enhancing the competitiveness of Indian industries in the global market.
The Minister also mentioned that India is negotiating Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with eight to nine additional blocs, with the goal of covering 75% of global trade. This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen trade relations and open up new market opportunities for Indian goods.
Furthermore, Goyal emphasized a commitment to facilitating smoother regulatory norms for high-tech industries to support Indias push towards becoming a global leader in technology and manufacturing. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of making India a significant player in the semiconductor space, which has become increasingly critical for technological advancement and economic growth.
As part of these developments, Goyals comments regarding foreign entities operating in India also raised eyebrows, particularly when he clarified that “you wont disappear in India,” possibly hinting at the contrasting business environments in other countries, such as China.
The Indian government’s focus on high-tech industries underscores its intent to boost domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports, particularly for key components in technology and automotive applications.
