An inter-ministerial review meeting was held recently, chaired by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The meeting centered on the development of a robust and future-oriented maritime ecosystem aimed at strengthening national supply chains.

During the session, various stakeholders from different governmental departments evaluated current maritime initiatives and discussed strategies to improve infrastructure, logistics, and regulatory frameworks within the sector. The emphasis was placed on leveraging technological advancements and enhancing operational efficiencies to bolster maritime trade and ensure the resilience of supply chains, particularly in the context of global disruptions.

Minister Sonowal highlighted the importance of a collaborative approach across ministries to align maritime policies with national economic goals and sustainability objectives. Additionally, the meeting identified key areas such as port modernization, investment in coastal shipping, and the promotion of inland waterways as vital components in the effort to enhance Indias maritime capabilities.

This initiative aligns with the governments broader goals under the Maritime Vision 2030, which seeks to position India as a global maritime hub and enhance the country’s competitiveness in international trade. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to inform future policy directions and investment priorities within the maritime sector.
