India exports $140 million worth of goods to the UK duty-free on first day of trade pact implementation

On Wednesday, India commenced the export of goods valued at over $140 million duty-free to the United Kingdom. More than fifty consignments were dispatched from over twenty different locations across the country. The shipments encompassed a range of products, including electronics, pharmaceuticals, and textiles, which are set to reach various international trade hubs.

This export initiative is facilitated by the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between India and the UK, which provides Indian exports with nearly 99% duty-free access to the British market. This agreement is anticipated to significantly enhance bilateral trade relations, further promoting economic collaboration and opportunities between the two nations.

The CETA represents a critical step in strengthening the trade partnership, as both countries aim to navigate post-Brexit opportunities. As trade barriers lower, sectors such as technology and healthcare are expected to benefit notably, with opportunities for joint ventures, innovation, and investment. The potential increase in exports may also contribute to job creation in India, underscoring the broader economic implications of this trade agreement.
