Indian Railways Reports Increase in Freight and Passenger Services

In June 2026, Indian Railways recorded a freight loading of 142.21 million tonnes, an increase from the 136.71 million tonnes achieved in June 2025. This growth in freight operations translated to an additional revenue of approximately ₹430 crore for the railway network.

The increase in freight volume can be attributed to various factors, including enhanced operational efficiency, improved infrastructure, and increased demand for transport services. Key commodities contributing to this rise include coal, steel, and agricultural products.

Indian Railways continues to prioritize freight services as a critical revenue stream and aims to further bolster its cargo capacity through ongoing infrastructure upgrades and the introduction of new technologies. The consistency in freight growth is part of the Railways broader strategy to support economic expansion and improve logistics across the country.
