Indian Institutions Climb from 11 in 2015 to 52 in QS World University Rankings 2027, Reports Government

Indias representation in the global higher education landscape has seen a notable increase, with 52 Indian institutions making it onto the QS World University Rankings for 2027, a significant rise from just 11 in 2015. This years rankings indicate improvements not only among the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) but also across a broader spectrum, with 26 institutions seeing advancements in their rankings.

The Indian government has credited this growth to several key initiatives, including the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020, as well as ongoing institutional expansion and reforms in higher education. The NIRF, first launched in 2015, aims to promote transparency and healthy competition among higher education institutions, while the NEP 2020 seeks to overhaul the Indian education system to make it more inclusive and accessible.
