India’s First Hydrogen Train Completes 6,000 km Journey, Reducing CO2 Emissions by 36,444 kg

Indias first hydrogen-powered train, featuring 10 coaches, is capable of accommodating 2,600 passengers. Currently, the train operates along the route between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. Its maximum operational speed is 75 kilometers per hour; however, the train has been engineered to reach speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

This pioneering initiative is a significant step towards sustainable transportation in India, aligning with the countrys efforts to transition to eco-friendly modes of travel. The hydrogen train utilizes hydrogen fuel cells to produce electricity, emitting only water vapor and contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

The deployment of this train is part of the Indian government’s broader strategy to explore alternative fuel options in the railway sector, aiming to enhance efficiency and decrease dependence on fossil fuels. This move also seeks to accelerate the adoption of green technologies across various modes of transportation in the country.

Additional efforts are being made to expand the network of hydrogen trains throughout India, with potential future routes aimed at enhancing connectivity while adhering to environmental sustainability goals.
