International Yoga Day 2026: Leaders and Yoga Enthusiasts Join Nationwide Celebrations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kolkata, emphasizing this years theme: “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The event aims to promote the benefits of yoga in maintaining physical and mental health as individuals age.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines to foster a healthier lifestyle, particularly for older adults. He noted that yoga not only enhances physical fitness but also aids in emotional well-being and mental clarity.
The International Day of Yoga, celebrated annually on June 21, was established by the United Nations in 2014 following a proposal by India. This year, various events and activities are being organized across the country and around the world, focusing on workshops and sessions that cater to different age groups and fitness levels.
In Kolkata, local participants joined in a mass yoga demonstration at prominent venues, while experts provided guidance on yoga practices suitable for seniors. The initiative underscores Indias commitment to promoting holistic health practices globally.
