International Yoga Day 2026: Nationwide Celebrations Involving Leaders and Yoga Enthusiasts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded this years International Day of Yoga celebrations held in Kolkata. The theme for 2023 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasizing the importance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being as individuals age.

The International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21, was established by the United Nations in 2014 to promote the numerous benefits of practicing yoga. This years theme highlights how yoga can contribute to a healthier lifestyle for seniors and support them in maintaining mobility, flexibility, and mental clarity.

In Kolkata, participants included local government officials, yoga practitioners, and community members who engaged in various yoga sessions and workshops designed to promote healthy ageing. Events were organized in multiple locations across India and around the world, encouraging people of all ages to practice yoga and embrace its holistic benefits for enhanced quality of life, particularly among the elderly population.

Prime Minister Modi, a staunch advocate for yoga, has often highlighted its transformative power in improving health and wellness. His leadership during the celebrations aimed to inspire broader acceptance and integration of yoga practices in daily life as a means to achieve better health outcomes for ageing individuals.
