J&K MBBS and BDS Interns Begin Indefinite Strike Demanding Stipend Increase to Rs 30,000

MBBS and BDS interns in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated an indefinite strike to press for an increase in their monthly stipend from the current rate of ₹12,300 to ₹30,000. The interns argue that the current stipend does not adequately reflect the rising cost of living, extended hospital duties, and the financial disparity compared to their counterparts in other states.

The interns are calling for a formal written assurance from the government regarding the stipend hike. They have also raised concerns about the delays in the implementation of previous recommendations aimed at revising the stipend.

In response to the rising demands, the health department of Jammu and Kashmir has faced scrutiny over its policies regarding intern compensations, particularly in light of increased workloads stemming from the healthcare challenges in the region. This strike reflects broader issues concerning the remuneration and support for medical interns nationwide, emphasizing the need for ongoing negotiations between healthcare professionals and government authorities to address these critical concerns.
