Karnataka Chief Minister Requests Interim Drought Relief from Prime Minister Amid States Acute Distress

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting immediate interim drought relief and the disbursement of advance State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to address the severe distress faced by the state due to ongoing drought conditions.

In his communication, Siddaramaiah highlighted that the state is grappling with significant agricultural losses attributed to erratic rainfall patterns, which have adversely affected crop yields. He urged the central government to expedite assistance to mitigate the hardships experienced by affected farmers and communities in Karnataka.

The state has experienced a deficit in monsoon rainfall this season, leading to concerns over water scarcity and its impact on agricultural production, particularly in rural areas heavily reliant on monsoon for farming activities. The Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need for support to implement relief measures and ensure the livelihood of those most affected.

Karnatakas call for support aligns with the broader challenges faced by various states in India due to climatic changes affecting agricultural output. The Chief Minister has also urged for a review of the current SDRF norms to allow for more expedited relief efforts during such emergencies.
