Karnataka CM Requests Interim Drought Relief and SDRF Funds
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has requested interim drought relief as well as additional funding from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to address the ongoing drought conditions affecting various regions of the state. In a meeting with officials, the Chief Minister highlighted the severe impact of the drought on agriculture and the livelihoods of farmers, urging immediate financial assistance to mitigate the hardships faced by affected communities.
The request comes as reports indicate that several districts in Karnataka are experiencing significant water shortages and crop failures due to inadequate rainfall. The government is expected to assess the situation and mobilize resources to provide support to farmers, including relief measures and potential loans to help restore agricultural productivity.
In light of these challenges, the state administration is also exploring options for long-term solutions to enhance water conservation and improve irrigation infrastructure. This approach aims to bolster the resilience of the agricultural sector against future droughts, which have become more frequent due to changing climate patterns.
As the situation develops, farmers and local communities are urged to report their grievances to the government to ensure that comprehensive support measures are implemented effectively.
