Karnataka Deputy CM Requests Central Intervention for ₹22,400 Crore Drought Relief

Karnatakas Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, has made a request for the Central Governments assistance in securing a drought relief package amounting to ₹22,400 crore. This appeal comes amid the states ongoing struggle with water scarcity, which has severely impacted agricultural productivity and the livelihoods of farmers across various districts.

During a press conference, Shivakumar emphasized the urgent need for financial support to address the burgeoning crisis caused by the prolonged lack of rainfall. He highlighted that many areas in Karnataka have been declared drought-hit, leading to significant hardships for the local farming community. The relief funds are intended to provide immediate aid to those affected and help mitigate the consequences of the ongoing drought conditions.

Moreover, the Deputy CM called for a comprehensive evaluation of the situation by government authorities to assess the needs effectively. He expressed optimism that the Centre would recognize the pressing nature of the issue and respond favorably to the states request.

The Karnataka government has been proactive in implementing measures to support farmers, including providing drinking water supplies and monitoring groundwater levels. However, the magnitude of the drought has necessitated additional resources from the national government to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and support rural communities during these challenging times.

As discussions continue regarding the relief package, the state administration remains hopeful for a prompt response from the Central Government, aiming to stabilize both the economy and the well-being of its citizens.
