Karnataka Accelerates Rehabilitation Plan for 300 Elephants Residing Outside Forest Areas

The Minister of Wildlife and Environmental Protection announced the implementation of a comprehensive suite of mitigation measures aimed at addressing human-wildlife conflicts, particularly involving elephants. These measures include the construction of rail barriers designed to prevent elephants from entering populated areas, the establishment of elephant-proof trenches to create safe buffer zones, and the deployment of rapid-response teams to respond promptly to incidents involving wildlife.

The initiative comes in response to an increase in such conflicts, which pose risks to both human safety and wildlife conservation. The Ministry is collaborating with local communities and wildlife experts to ensure these measures are effective while promoting coexistence between humans and elephants.

Additionally, the government will monitor the effectiveness of these strategies through regular assessments and community feedback, and is exploring further innovations to improve wildlife management practices. The aim is to establish sustainable solutions that protect both human and elephant populations in the region.
