Karnataka Government Introduces Indias First Digital Grievance Redressal System for Gig Workers

A groundbreaking mechanism, the first of its kind in India, has been developed by the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers Board in partnership with the Department of e-Governance. This initiative aims to address the unique challenges faced by gig workers—individuals who engage in short-term, flexible jobs often facilitated through digital platforms.

The newly established mechanism is designed to enhance the welfare and rights of gig workers in Karnataka, promoting fair labor practices and providing better access to social security benefits. This development comes at a time when the gig economy is experiencing significant growth, necessitating regulatory frameworks to protect this segment of the workforce.

By leveraging technology and stakeholder collaboration, the Karnataka government hopes to create a supportive ecosystem that empowers gig workers, ensuring they receive fair compensation and improved working conditions. The initiative reflects a broader trend in India, where states are increasingly recognizing the need to integrate gig workers into the formal labor market and provide them with the necessary support and protections.
