Kerala Assembly: Minister Announces Focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems to Address Power Issues

The Electricity Minister, Sunny Joseph, announced in the House that five of the six Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects currently in development are projected to be completed by the end of 2026. Upon completion, these projects are expected to add a total of 1,500 megawatts (MW) of storage capacity to the regional energy infrastructure.

Battery energy storage systems play a crucial role in stabilizing the electrical grid, enabling the integration of renewable energy sources and addressing fluctuations in energy supply and demand. The successful implementation of these projects could also enhance energy security and contribute to the state’s efforts in meeting its climate goals. The development of these systems signifies a significant step toward advancing the regions renewable energy initiatives and improving the reliability of electricity supply for consumers.
