Kerala Increases Hydroelectric Production as Dam Water Levels Fall to 44% Ahead of Elections
According to data released by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the current water storage levels across all hydropower dams in the state are adequate to generate approximately 1,821.7 million units (MU) of electricity.
This capacity reflects the operational potential of the states hydropower infrastructure, which is a critical component of Keralas energy supply, especially during periods of high demand. The availability of water storage is influenced by various factors, including seasonal rainfall, reservoir levels, and overall climate conditions.
As of the latest reports, KSEB manages several major dams, which play a vital role in providing renewable energy and ensuring energy security for the region. The generation of hydropower is not only essential for meeting local energy needs but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with global sustainability efforts.
KSEB officials emphasize the importance of maintaining optimal water levels to sustain hydropower production and to plan for future energy needs as the state continues to grow.
