Kerala Minister Requests Centre to Exclude Areas from Proposed ESZ

Keralam Minister Proposes Exclusion of Certain Areas from Proposed Eco-Sensitive Zone

In a recent communication with the Central Government, Keralams Minister for Forests, Sunny Joseph, has advocated for the exclusion of specific regions from the proposed Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) in the state. The proposal comes in light of concerns raised by local communities regarding potential restrictions on land use and development within these areas.

The minister emphasized the need for a balanced approach that preserves the environment while also considering the livelihoods and rights of residents. He pointed out that certain regions within the proposed ESZ are already developed and do not require additional restrictions.

The Eco-Sensitive Zone initiative aims to protect biodiversity and prevent environmental degradation. However, the implementation has raised concerns among stakeholders, including farmers, property owners, and local businesses.

In addition to the discussions about specific exclusions, the minister also called for more comprehensive consultations with local communities to ensure that their voices are heard in the decision-making process. This engagement is seen as crucial for addressing the socio-economic implications of environmental policies.

As the Central Government reviews the proposed boundaries of the ESZ, it remains to be seen how these discussions will impact the final decision regarding environmental protection measures in Keralam.
