Kerala Schools Implement Restrictions on Students Using Cosmetics During Breaks
The Child Welfare Committee of Kerala has initiated a campaign to address the growing trend of schoolchildren using cosmetics during school hours. This program, which began in Kollam, is in response to health concerns linked to several chemicals commonly found in such products, including mercury and cadmium, which have been associated with serious health risks such as intestinal cancer.
The campaign aims to educate both students and parents about the potential hazards posed by cosmetic use at a young age. Schools participating in the initiative will conduct awareness sessions focusing on the harmful effects of these cosmetics. Schools that complete the educational program will be recognized as lipstick-free campuses, promoting a healthier school environment.
In addition to raising awareness about health risks, the campaign also seeks to foster discussions about self-acceptance and the pressures young people may face regarding appearance. The initiative highlights the importance of focusing on education and personal development over cosmetic use among students. As the campaign progresses, it may encourage similar initiatives in other regions, addressing the broader implications of beauty standards and health in school settings.
