Kochi-Theni Greenfield Highway Project Temporarily Paused

A significant infrastructure project spanning 151 kilometers has been in development for approximately ten years, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion along the 121-kilometer National Highway 85 corridor that connects Kochi to Munnar. This initiative is designed to enhance connectivity between these two important destinations in Kerala, India, which are known for their tourism and agricultural sectors.

The NH 85 corridor has faced increasing vehicular traffic over the years, particularly during peak tourist seasons, leading to delays and safety concerns for travelers. The proposed improvements are expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow, reduce travel times, and promote economic growth in the region by improving access to local businesses and services.

In addition to managing congestion, the project may include the construction of new road segments, bridges, and possibly upgraded traffic management systems to accommodate both local and tourist traffic. As the project progresses, stakeholders will monitor its impact on the surrounding environment and communities, ensuring that development is balanced with sustainability.
