Kochi Corporation to Issue Notice to CSML Regarding Streetlight Maintenance

Councillors from various political parties have expressed their concerns regarding the performance and maintenance of LED street lights in the region. They have criticized the lights for their inconsistent functioning, leading to questions about their reliability and upkeep. In response to these allegations, the City Streetlight Management Limited (CSML) has stated that, at any given time, the number of non-functional lights has never exceeded 200 within a larger network of over 43,000 LED lights.

This statement highlights that despite the grievances raised, the malfunctioning lights represent a small fraction of the total infrastructure.

The installation of LED lights was part of an initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing electricity costs for local governments. Further investigation may be needed to assess the factors contributing to the reported issues and to determine actionable solutions for improving the reliability and maintenance of lighting infrastructure in the area.
