Kumaraswamy Seeks ₹3,705 Crore in Central Aid for Karnataka Drought

Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has formally requested Rs 3,705 crore in assistance from the central government to address the severe drought conditions affecting the state. This appeal comes as Karnataka faces significant agricultural distress due to insufficient rainfall, which has severely impacted crop yields and water supply.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Kumaraswamy detailed the extent of the drought and its effects on rural communities, urging prompt government intervention to assist farmers and residents affected by the crisis. The Chief Minister also highlighted that the funds would be essential for implementing relief measures and supporting various developmental projects aimed at mitigating the hardships faced by the population.

Karnataka has been grappling with erratic monsoon patterns in recent years, leading to repeated drought incidents. The state government is currently exploring long-term strategies to enhance water management and improve agricultural resilience to climate variability. This request for aid aligns with ongoing discussions about the need for a comprehensive national policy to address water scarcity and support drought-affected regions across India.
