Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in an additional capacity, while he maintains his role as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sitaram, a member of the 2001-batch AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre, holds qualifications in engineering and industrial management. His leadership role will provide continuity in the boards operations until a permanent Chairperson is appointed by the Central government.
