Maharashtra RTOs Initiate Body Camera Training Following Unused Devices Across Multiple Offices

The Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Maharashtra have initiated training programs for the use of body cameras, after 600 of these devices were found to be unused across 60 different offices. This comes as part of a larger effort to enhance accountability and transparency within the states transportation system.

Officials have recognized the importance of ensuring that all RTO staff are adequately trained in operating these cameras effectively to utilize technology in monitoring activities and improving service delivery. The body cameras are intended to aid in overseeing operations, documenting interventions, and maintaining records of interactions between employees and the public.

Despite the availability of the devices, the significant number that remained inactive highlights a gap in implementation and training that the Maharashtra government is now addressing. Officials have stated that they are committed to making full use of technological advancements to bolster the integrity and efficiency of RTO operations.

As part of the training initiative, RTO personnel will learn proper usage protocols for the cameras, which include ensuring that recordings are stored securely and can be accessed when needed for reviews or audits. The introduction of these cameras is expected to improve both staff conduct and public experiences, ultimately contributing to better governance in transportation.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Maharashtra government to enhance operational accountability in all state departments, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and improved public service.
