Mamata Claims BJP Aims to Conduct Delimitation to Trifurcate Bengal Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections
During a recent campaign rally in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the central government is actively working to enhance the development of the Siliguri Corridor. This strategically important area connects the northeastern states of India with the rest of the country and also serves as a vital link to neighboring countries.
The Siliguri Corridor, often referred to as the “Chickens Neck,” is a narrow land strip that plays a crucial role in transportation and trade. The Prime Minister highlighted that the governments initiatives aim to improve infrastructure in this region, which includes roads, railways, and other essential services.
Further investments in the Siliguri Corridor are expected to bolster connectivity and facilitate economic growth in the surrounding states, potentially aiding in the regions socio-economic development. Additionally, the government’s focus on this corridor aligns with its broader “Act East” policy, which seeks to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian nations and enhance security in the region.
This announcement comes ahead of crucial elections in West Bengal, where development issues are a key focus for voters.
