Masjids Transform into Educational Centers: New Initiative Aims to Support Local Students

In the Akbarnagar area of Hyderabads Old City, several mosques have been repurposed as part-time educational centers, known as maktabs. These facilities provide instruction in various subjects, including mathematics, science, English, and Telugu.

This initiative, spearheaded by a group of technology professionals, aims to offer free educational support to children enrolled in local government and budget schools, many of whom may lack access to additional learning resources.

The program not only seeks to enhance academic performance among the students but also strives to create a nurturing environment that promotes holistic development. As part of this initiative, volunteers from the community, alongside the tech professionals, engage with the students to facilitate their learning experience. This effort reflects a growing trend in some regions where community resources are utilized to augment educational support, particularly in underserved areas.

The maktabs operate in the evenings or on weekends, allowing students to benefit from structured learning outside of their regular school hours. Community leaders have expressed support for the initiative, noting its potential to positively impact the educational outcomes for local youth.
