MDU Professor Awarded ₹25 Lakh Grant for Sustainable Wheat Farming Research Project
Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Professor Vinita Hooda has been awarded a grant of ₹25 lakh from the Haryana State Council for Science and Technology (HSCST) for a research project aimed at promoting sustainable wheat farming practices.
The three-year project will focus on investigating the synergy between mycorrhiza fungi and soil microbiomes to reduce the need for chemical fertilizers in wheat cultivation. By enhancing the natural interactions between these microorganisms, the research aims to improve crop resilience to environmental stressors such as heat and drought.
This initiative not only seeks to contribute to sustainable agricultural practices but also aims to enhance soil health and reduce costs for farmers, thereby supporting rural livelihoods. The grant highlights MDUs commitment to innovative research in the field of agriculture, marking a significant advancement for both the university and the wider agricultural community.
