Mehbooba Mufti Advocates for Jammu and Kashmir as a Bridge of Peace Between India and Pakistan

On July 1, Mehbooba Mufti, president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), proposed that the Government of India should leverage Jammu and Kashmirs strategic geographical position to enhance connectivity between South and Central Asia. In her remarks, Mufti emphasized the potential of the region to serve as a conduit for trade and cultural exchange, which could, in turn, contribute to improved diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, including Pakistan and China.

This suggestion comes amid ongoing discussions about regional development and the importance of fostering economic ties in a geopolitically sensitive area. Jammu and Kashmir, located at the crossroad of South Asia, Central Asia, and East Asia, has historically been a vital corridor for trade and communication. Muftis statement aligns with broader initiatives by various stakeholders advocating for enhanced regional cooperation and connectivity, which they believe could lead to economic prosperity and stability in the region.

In recent years, the Indian government has initiated several infrastructure projects aimed at boosting connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, including road, rail, and air transport links. The regions development strategy is crucial, considering its unique history and ongoing challenges related to governance, security, and economic growth.
