Monsoon Update: Shimla Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Warning for Thunderstorms, Lightning, and Gusty Winds; Orange Alert Issued for Mumbai

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the official announcement of the onset of the monsoon season will be made only after all specified criteria have been fulfilled.

Typically, the IMD evaluates multiple meteorological parameters such as rainfall, humidity levels, wind patterns, and atmospheric pressure to determine the onset of the southwest monsoon, which is crucial for agricultural planning in the country. The monsoon season is vital for India, as it provides approximately 70% of the annual rainfall, making it essential for crop production and water resources.

The IMD usually issues a forecast for the monsoon around the beginning of June, but due to varying weather patterns and other climatic factors, the exact timing of the monsoon’s arrival can be subject to change. The department encourages the public and agricultural sectors to stay informed through regular updates issued by the IMD.
