Myanmar Will Not Permit Use of Its Territory by Anti-India Groups, Says President Min Aung Hlaing
India is set to provide training to the Myanmar military in preparation for participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions. This initiative comes amid ongoing discussions between the two nations that highlight significant matters, including the ongoing detention of former leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
In addition to military cooperation, the talks also focus on critical infrastructure projects that aim to enhance connectivity between India and Myanmar. Notable among these projects is the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, which is designed to facilitate trade and transportation between the two countries, as well as the trilateral Moreh-Mae Sot highway. This strategic highway is intended to bolster regional connectivity by linking India’s northeastern states with Myanmar and Thailand.
These discussions are crucial, as they reflect Indias ongoing efforts to strengthen its geopolitical ties in Southeast Asia, particularly in the context of Chinas growing influence in the region. Furthermore, the outcome of these talks may influence the broader landscape of international relations concerning Myanmar, especially in light of the political turmoil and humanitarian crises that have emerged since the military coup in February 2021.
