Nandan Nilekani Named in SIRs ‘No-Mapping’ Category; Other Names Flagged

Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys and chair of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has been included in the Karnataka State Election Commissions (SIR) “no-mapping” category. This designation pertains to individuals who may be facing discrepancies in their voter registration information.

The SIR has flagged several significant names, including those of Zerodha co-founders, for potential issues related to their electoral registrations. The scrutiny has raised concerns regarding the accuracy of the voter database in Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru where approximately 6.24 lakh voters exhibit anomalies, and 18 lakh voters have received no-mapping notices.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is also reportedly examining the feasibility of verifying these discrepancies affecting around 43 lakh voters statewide. As the electoral process progresses, the presence of these discrepancies may create challenges for affected individuals wishing to participate in upcoming polls.

The implications of these findings underscore a critical need for electoral reform and accurate mapping of voter information to ensure fair and transparent elections in Karnataka. The state election body is expected to work alongside the ECI to address these concerns.
