NASA Activates DSS-23 at Goldstone, Expanding Deep Space Network to 15 Antennas
NASA has officially activated the Deep Space Network (DSN) station DSS-23 located at the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex in California. This expansion brings the total number of operational antennas in the DSN to 15, enhancing the agencys ability to communicate with spacecraft exploring the solar system and beyond.
The Goldstone complex is one of three sites that make up the DSN, along with locations in Australia and Spain. This global network of antennas provides critical communication capabilities for various missions, including the Mars rovers, Voyager spacecraft, and the upcoming Artemis missions aimed at returning humans to the Moon.
