Nepal Resumes Issuance of Gulf Work Permits Following Suspension Due to Conflict, Amid Rising Unemployment

Nepal has reinstated the issuance of work permits for its citizens seeking employment in the Gulf countries, following a temporary suspension that was enacted due to regional conflicts. This decision comes in response to rising unemployment rates within Nepal, as many citizens are actively seeking job opportunities abroad.

The suspension had been originally put in place amid heightened tensions in parts of the Middle East, which led to concerns about the safety and well-being of workers. However, with the situation stabilizing and the demand for labor in countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates remaining high, the Nepali government has opted to lift the ban on work permits.

The move is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Nepals economy and alleviate unemployment challenges facing many communities. The government reports that remittances from Nepali workers abroad play a significant role in the national economy, contributing approximately a quarter of the countrys GDP.

Nepals Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has set measures to ensure the welfare and safety of workers traveling to Gulf nations. Additionally, potential workers will be informed about resources available for their protection and support throughout their employment.
