Nepal Envoy Asserts Strong Ties with India Ahead of Upcoming Visit by Foreign Secretary to Kathmandu

Shankar Sharma, a prominent energy official from Nepal, has stated that the countrys electricity exports to India are projected to increase significantly in the near future. This growth is attributed to enhanced regional energy cooperation and infrastructure development initiatives.

Sharma noted that the Motihari-Amlekhganj petroleum pipeline has played a crucial role in alleviating Nepals energy crisis, particularly in the wake of geopolitical tensions, such as the recent U.S.-Israel conflict regarding Iran. The pipeline, which facilitates the transportation of fuel between India and Nepal, has been instrumental in ensuring a more stable energy supply, thereby enabling Nepal to better meet its energy demands.

Nepal is also focusing on expanding its hydropower capacity, with numerous projects in the pipeline aimed at maximizing its renewable energy potential. The countrys strategic partnership with India in the energy sector is essential for fostering economic growth and addressing energy shortages during periods of increased demand or crisis. As these developments unfold, both nations stand to benefit from improved energy security and trade relations.
