New Assam Secretariat Established in Silchar to Serve Barak Valley

In a move aimed at improving administrative efficiency in the Barak Valley, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a new Assam Secretariat in Silchar. This initiative is expected to be a significant game changer for the region, providing better access to government services for local residents.

The newly established Secretariat, officially renamed from the previous Mini Secretariat, will house 32 government departments, streamlining processes and reducing the need for residents to travel to the state capital, Dispur. This decision is anticipated to enhance service delivery and governance in the area.

Local leaders, including representatives from the Dima Hasao district, have called for the inclusion of their administrative needs within the new Secretariats domain. They argue that expanding the scope of the Secretariat to cover Dima Hasao would further enhance the regions administrative efficiency.

Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the Secretariats role in bringing governance closer to the people of Barak Valley, which has historically faced challenges in accessing state services. The establishment of this office is part of a broader strategy to decentralize administration and promote regional development.

This development aligns with the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and public services in various parts of the state, particularly in areas that have been underserved in the past. The Secretariats operations are expected to begin promptly, addressing the immediate needs of the local populace.
