NFHS-6 Report Reveals One in Five Women Experience Domestic Violence and One in Four Children Are Stunted in Odisha

The recently released National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) reveals significant public health and social issues in Odisha. The survey indicates that approximately 20% of women in the state have experienced partner violence, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding gender-based violence. Additionally, it was reported that around 25% of children in Odisha are facing stunting, a condition that can impair physical growth and cognitive development.

The NFHS-6 report also points to low female participation in the workforce, suggesting barriers to womens economic empowerment in the region. Furthermore, the survey notes a significant increase in cesarean section deliveries, which raises questions about maternal health practices and access to healthcare services.

These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in Odisha, particularly in improving womens rights, enhancing child nutrition, and addressing healthcare delivery methods. The state government and various stakeholders may need to focus on developing strategies that promote gender equality, improve maternal and child health, and ensure that healthcare services are both accessible and appropriate for the population.
