Nitin Gadkari Announces Plans for Fully Barrier-Free FASTag Tolls, Projecting Rs 25,000 Crore Benefit

The Minister of Road Transport and Highways has announced that the government aims to implement barrier-free toll booths on all national highways by March 2027. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of toll collection and improve the travel experience for motorists.

The minister also highlighted that the adoption of FASTag, an electronic toll collection system, has significantly boosted toll revenues by approximately 10%, translating to around ₹7,000 crore. As a result, the total revenue generated from toll booths has exceeded ₹82,000 crore.

The move towards barrier-free tolling aligns with global trends to reduce congestion at toll plazas and promote smoother vehicle flow. The government is likely to invest in infrastructure upgrades to support this transition, facilitating a more modernized transportation framework across the country.
