November 2026 School Holidays: State-wise Vacation Dates for Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Guru Nanak Jayanti

As the school year progresses, students and parents are eagerly anticipating the upcoming holidays in November 2026. This month includes significant festivals like Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Guru Nanak Jayanti, which are celebrated with great enthusiasm across various states in India.

During this festive period, schools typically observe public holidays to allow families to partake in the celebrations. Each state has specific dates designated for school vacations, and these can vary considerably based on local customs and traditions associated with each festival.

In many states, Diwali will be celebrated in early November, with school closures expected around November 10-12. Following this, Chhath Puja, another important festival, generally falls shortly after, leading to additional holidays, particularly in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh where it is widely celebrated. Guru Nanak Jayanti, commemorating the birth of the first Sikh Guru, is another significant event in November, with schools in states with substantial Sikh populations likely to observe this holiday on November 27.

Parents and students should check with their respective state education departments or local school administrations to confirm the exact dates and any potential changes. Planning around these holidays can help families make the most of their time together during this festive season. As these dates are finalized, they will be made available on various educational platforms and announcements.
