Oil Marketing Companies Hesitant to Expand E85 Rollout Amid E20 Petrol Discussions

Recent regulatory guidelines indicate that automobiles produced between 2012 and March 2023 were engineered to operate effectively on fuel containing up to 10% ethanol. Conversely, vehicles manufactured prior to April 2025 generally lack the necessary compatibility to safely use E20 fuel blends, which consist of 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline.

Ethanol is a renewable fuel derived primarily from corn and other plant materials, and its use is often promoted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, the increased ethanol content in E20 can lead to potential damage in older engine systems, including fuel systems and engine components not designed for higher ethanol concentrations.
