Parliament Approves Bill to Designate Amaravati as the Capital of Andhra Pradesh 12 Years After State Division

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) emerged as the sole political party to oppose the recently proposed Bill, highlighting concerns related to the demands and welfare of farmers. In contrast, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) hailed the day as momentous for the entire Telugu community, suggesting that the Bill addresses long-standing issues affecting this demographic.

Opposition members criticized the 12-year delay in bringing the Bill to fruition, labeling it a “national shame.” They emphasized the urgent need for legislative action to support agrarian reforms and enhance the livelihoods of farmers.

The discussions surrounding this Bill come at a time when agricultural policies and their impact on farmers are under intense scrutiny in India. Various stakeholders, including farmers unions and agricultural experts, have been vocal about the need for reforms that address issues such as minimum support prices, debt relief, and sustainable farming practices. The ongoing debates within the political sphere reflect the broader economic challenges faced by the agricultural sector, which employs a significant portion of the population.
