Physical SIR Hearings in Karnataka to Commence with Doorstep Document Collection by BLOs
The Election Commission of India has announced the suspension of physical SIR (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) hearings in Karnataka amidst ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections. In place of these hearings, the Commission will initiate doorstep document collection by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to facilitate voter registration and the correction of electoral rolls.
This decision comes as part of the Commission’s efforts to streamline the electoral process and ensure greater accessibility for voters. The BLOs will visit households to assist citizens in submitting necessary documents for voter registration or to correct their details in the electoral rolls.
The shift to doorstep services aims to engage more citizens and enhance voter participation. Karnataka has been focusing on increasing electoral awareness and simplifying the process for potential voters, particularly amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in large gatherings.
As part of the electoral reform, the Commission encourages citizens to take advantage of this service, ensuring they are registered to vote and that their details are accurately reflected in the electoral lists.
